Officer in Coma also left leg broken -- To be flown out for further medical treatment Today January 1st.
PHILIPSBURG:-- A police officer identified as Alexander Boasman got into an accident about 100 meters from the entrance of Guana Bay road. SMN News understands that the officer was seriously injured. Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said that Officer Boasman was riding his personal motor cycle coming from upper Sucker Garden area and was probably heading to Philipsburg Police Station when the accident occurred. Henson said based on preliminary information he received is that a car with an “R” number plate driven by tourists made a “U”turn in front of the officer causing the accident. Henson said officer Boasman is in a coma and also his left leg is broken. The tourists that were driving the rental vehicle escaped unharmed, they remain on the scene of the accident and later reported to the Philipsburg Police Station where they were questioned and released. Officer Alexander Boasman came from a family most of whom works in law enforcement, his mother is a former immigration officer now working at the forensic department while his father Alselmo Boasman works at the Pointe Blanche prison. His late aunt Glenda Webster was also an employee at KPSM. Up to 3:30pm on Thursday the injured officer was still in a coma and it is understood that one of the officer's lung collapsed. According to information provided to SMN News officer Boasman seems to have suffered other serious injuries such as broken ribs and currently is brain is swollen. Doctors at SMMC are working round the clock to stablize the young cop in order to fly him overseas for further medical treatment.
Officers of KPSM were planning to hold an end of year prayer service and get together at the back of the Police Station today December 31st as they beleive that they had to deal with too many sorrowful situations this year. However, it is not yet known if that prayer service will take place as was scheduled because most of the officers of the police force gathered at the St. Maarten Medical Center where their colleague Alexander Boasman is recieving medical care. Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said that doctors at SMMC are conducting the necessary tests and it is most likely that they will evacuate the injured officer overseas for further medical treatment if necessary. Henson said while officer Boasman is still in a coma he is breathing on his own at the moment. Doctors at the St. Maarten Medical Center are currently making the necessary arrangements to air evacuate officer Alexander Boasman overseas for further medical treatment. Chief of Police Carl John confirmed on Friday January 1st 2016 that his employee is still in a comatose state and arrangements are being made to take him to a trauma center for further medical treatment.
The officers of KPSM has endured quite a few tragic incidents during the year 2015, One being the fatal shooting that claimed the life of bike patrol Gamali Benjamin, the accident that left officer Rannis handicap, the shooting of immigration officer Jason Juliet and now the tragic motor cycle accident involving officer Alexander Boasman.
