PHILIPSBURG:--- Local ferry provider The Great Bay Express is giving back to the community by sponsoring a group of young Jiu Jitsu athletes who will be competing in St Barths in the first Annual Saint Barths Kids Open Kids Jiu Jitsu tournament on January 16th. The children ages 10-13 represent SXM BJJ/Team Renzo Gracie St. Maarten and will test their skills against students from St Barths and French St. Martin.
The team is lead by SXM BJJ head instructor Melissa Bardfield and visiting Black belts Javier Valenciano and Esteban Arias of Athletic Advance Academy in San Jose, Costa Rica who will referee the tournament.
This is the first time Jiu Jitsu students from St. Maarten of this age will compete together in Saint Barth. SXM BJJ instructor Melissa Bardfield is very thankful to the Great Bay Express ferry for making the trip feasible for her students and looks forward to a great learning experience for all the students participating.
