AUC students volunteer at the Mental Health Foundation for community action day.

aucmhf20102019 PHILIPSBURG:--- On the 19th of October, 11 AUC students spent their Saturday helping the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) with much-needed facility maintenance in honour of community action day. They helped to construct a car wash covering, and painted the entrance and dining area of the Faraja Day Treatment Center.

Community action day has been a tradition for over eleven years at AUC medical school. Physicians in training go beyond the campus three times per year to engage with community partners through service projects focusing on health, education, environmental awareness and more. One of the projects for this semester was the beautification of the MHF facility, just as it was in June of this year. This provided them with an idea of how the MHF looks and works on the inside, which can be exciting and beneficial for medical students since the areas of expertise often overlap.

Mental Health Foundation likes to express its gratitude for the community service of these 11 volunteers, and AUC for their community involvement now and in the past.

As the founders of Community Action day (Drs. Emmanuel Ofori and Beatrice Kenol) said: ‘’be the change that you want to see in the world.’’
