PHILIPSBURG:--- The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) is issuing a safety advisory ahead of the upcoming Causeway Jump-Up Carnival event scheduled for Saturday, March 16th, 2024, commencing at 08:00 PM. The police are urging the public to adhere strictly to safety and security regulations and to be mindful of changes implemented to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the festivities.
Historically, during Jump-Up events, the police have observed concerning behaviors exhibited by scooter and motorcycle riders, posing risks to both participants and spectators alike. These behaviors have the potential to jeopardize the safety of individuals attending the Jump-Up.
In light of these observations, KPSM emphasizes its commitment to maintaining public safety and announces that stringent measures will be enforced to address any infractions. The police force will take decisive action against individuals engaged in fights, public intoxication, drug dealing, resisting arrest, and possession of weapons during the Jump-Up.
The possession of weapons poses a significant threat to public safety and will not be tolerated. Those found in possession of weapons will be swiftly apprehended and face legal consequences.
The community's cooperation is crucial in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees. KPSM urges everyone to remain vigilant, adhere to the rules and regulations set forth, and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
We encourage everyone to partake responsibly in the festivities, prioritizing safety above all else. Let us come together to celebrate Carnival in a spirit of joy and unity while respecting the laws and regulations that safeguard our community.
