Snap Elections turn out to be a tight race.

mpselect20082024PHILIPSBURG: --- The snap elections called by Prime Minister of St. Maarten Dr. Luc Mercelina benefitted the URSM even though many thought Mercelina and his team would not have been reelected. The URSM gained one additional seat in parliament based on the preliminary results announced at 4 am on Thursday morning.
Those elected to Parliament on the URSM slate are its leader Dr. Luc Mercelina, Sjamira Roseburg and Richinel Brug. The URSM secured 2,230 votes.
The National Alliance, which had four seats in parliament, lost one of its seats even though it maintained a narrow lead. The National Alliance secured 2,264 votes, which gave them three seats; however, party leader Silveria Jacobs did not secure enough votes to return to parliament. Those elected on the National Alliance slate are Egbert Jurendy Doran, Darryl York, and Ardwell Irion.
Also securing three seats is the Democratic Party who secured 2,069 votes, those elected are Sarah Wescot Williams, Grisha Heyliger Marten and Viren Kotai.
The United Peoples Party maintained its two seats in parliament. Party leader Omar Ottley and Francisco Lacroes were reelected to the Parliament of St. Maarten, Rolando Brison who was not reelected in January was also not reelected on Wednesday.
The PFP secured 1,942 votes and two seats. Ludimilla de Weever and the party leader Melissa Gumbs were elected.
risidualseats20082024The leader of the NOW Christophe was not reelected, however, the number three candidate on the now slate current Minister of Justice Lyndon Lewis was elected to the Parliament of St. Maarten.
The SAM, headed by former Member of Parliament Franklin Meyers, was reelected to the Parliament of St. Maarten.
The ECE, led by Nigel Wigley, did not secure enough votes for a seat; however, he received 136 votes.
pollingstations20082024Also, the OMC, led by Olivier Arrindell, a newcomer, did not secure enough votes for a seat. The OMC received 521 votes.
The total amount of registered voters is 22,750
13,885 persons voted, of which 13,694 were valid and 191 were invalid.
The quota to obtain a seat is 912,93 votes.
The results announced on Thursday morning are preliminary and will be confirmed on August 26th, 2024.
