PHILIPSBURG: --- Former Member of Parliament Theodore “Theo” Heyliger was discharged from the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) on Tuesday and transferred back to the Pointe Blanche Prison.
Heyliger’s wife, Deputy Prime Minister Grisha Heyliger-Marten, confirmed his discharge from the hospital and issued the following statement:
“Theo was discharged from the hospital today and has been transferred back to the prison. Thankfully, his latest test results were positive, and he is doing much better.
“At this point, our main focus is ensuring that he is properly cared for, that he continues to recover, and that a clear medical plan is put in place for him going forward.”
Heyliger was admitted to SMMC last week after reportedly experiencing significant pain due to diverticulitis and a perforated colon while incarcerated at the Pointe Blanche Prison. Public reporting at the time confirmed his hospitalization, but no detailed diagnosis was disclosed. Deputy Prime Minister Grisha Heyliger Marten made the full disclosure on Monday.
His return to prison follows the improvement reflected in his latest medical tests. However, the family’s statement makes clear that continued medical attention and a structured plan for his recovery remain priorities.
