PHILIPSBURG:--- Health care cost containment, financial consequences for taxpayers, and outstanding arrears to SZV were among the issues examined by the Social Economic Council (SER) during its consideration of the Sustainable Affordable Accessible Health Care Act (SAAHA).
The Council highlighted these issues when announcing its 2025 Annual Report, which outlines its advisory activities during the year.
SAAHA was one of several major policy matters the SER addressed as it completed 10 comprehensive advisory reports and worked to reduce a legislative advisory backlog dating back to 2023.
The Council’s consideration of health care reform included additional input from experts. Its Board held about six extraordinary meetings on SAAHA and the proposed Visitor’s Tax, as part of 23 meetings in 2025.
The issues identified by the SER place health care financing alongside the question of access. Its examination of the proposed legislation highlighted cost containment, taxpayer obligations, and outstanding SZV arrears.
However, the press release does not disclose the Council’s specific recommendations on SAAHA, quantify the arrears or explain how it proposed addressing the financial concerns.
The Annual Report is intended to provide an overview of the Council’s work and its contribution to independent socio-economic advice.
