The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams held a meeting on Wednesday with EU Project Manager Ms. Jones, Suzette Moses of the St. Maarten HIV/AIDS Program Management Team and Steering Committee Members regarding the preparatory planning meeting in preparation for the European Community/ Overseas Countries and Territories Steering Committee meeting and year four planning committee meeting of the EC/ OCT to be held in Aruba from the sixth to the seventh of September.
The prevention of and fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS is a major priority of the EC Program for Action to Confront HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis in the context of poverty reduction and it is also one of the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals and of the EU Development Policy "The European Consensus". The recent Communication on EUâCaribbean relations emphasizes the political priority for the EU to support the efforts of the Caribbean region in general and St. Maarten more specifically to tackle HIV/AIDS.
