Minister de Weever said March 10th will make it one year since he has taken office and to mark the occasion he decided to surprise the nurses at Collective Prevention Services with a little token that would enable them to do their jobs better.
The Minister said that there are people who have their children in exceptionally noisy areas and as such the hearing of these children is being affected. He urged the nurses to use the tester to test children's hearing. Minister De Weever said when he was working at the Department of Public Health he realized that hearing tests were not being conducted during the screening process. "I inquired about it when I saw hearing tests were not conducted. I also noticed that many parents and other guardians are driving around with very loud music while having children inside their vehicles, therefore the damage that is done to these children's hearing over time will definitely impact their education. The Health Minister said he knows that the staff of Collective Preventative Services will need to be trained to conduct the necessary tests and it is an investment his Ministry is willing to make for the future development of the island's children.
