WIFOL Raises Concerns about USM --- President of the Institution not Competent --- Thompson.

Philipsburg: --- The President of the Workers Institute for Organized Labour (WIFOL) Theophillus Thompson raised several concerns about the state of affairs at the University of St. Martin and the competency of the current President. Thompson told reporters on Thursday during the union's press conference that the union is very much concerned about education on St. Martin and especially what is taking place at USM. Thompson said since the resignation of the former president nothing has changed at USM for the workers and the students.
The board of USM hired a new president and we have made a number of appointments to meet with her but she refused to meet with us in the past. However, we took a firm stand and managed to get the President of USM to agree to a meeting. Thompson said since 2010 six educators of the learning institution had to leave USM because of the working conditions and lack of vision for the institution. He said the education institution is deteriorating slowly but surely and he is of the opinion that the board of USM should seriously look into what USM is contributing towards education on St. Maarten. He further explained that because of the union's concerns they have chosen to put the Collective Labour Agreement (CLA) on hold until better can be done. "As union we had to set our priorities correctly and we know there can be no development if the people are not developed."
