The finance committee comprised of the faction leaders, William Marlin (NA), Frans Richardson (IND), Patrick Illidge (IND), Roy Marlin (DP), and Romain La Ville (UP).
The source said that Heyliger told La Ville that he will chair the financial committee as is customary for United Peoples Party faction and Roy Marlin will be appointed vice chairman, but when La Ville showed up at the meeting Democratic Party Member of Parliament Petrus Leroy De Weever informed La Ville that the DP faction had reached an agreement with the UP Party leader (the big boss) that states that Roy Marlin will be the chairman of committee and William Marlin from the National Alliance faction will be the vice chair of the committee. The proposal was supported by DP and the two Independent factions in parliament namely Frans Richardson and Patrick Illidge.
The source said that La Ville contacted Heyliger via Blackberry messenger to query the agreement he made with the Democratic Party faction and Heyliger told him that he was not aware of the agreement. SMN News learnt that La Ville is now wondering if his party leader shafted him or if he was shafted by the DP and Independent member that has a coalition agreement with the UP Party.
The source said that La Ville eventually went along with the installation of the chairman and vice chairman since the four faction leaders are the ones that were supposed to vote on the installation of the committee chair and vice chair. William Marlin (NA), Patrick Illidge (IND), Frans Richardson (IND), and Leroy Petrus de Weever were in favor of the proposal to have Roy Marlin as chair and William Marlin as vice chair.
According to the source close to the United Peoples Party standard procedures for the present UP/DP coalition has been that committees are chaired by a Member of Parliament from the UP or a faction that supports the UP leader, Minister Heyliger. They said that the education committee is chaired by Silvia Meyers (UP) Public Health committee chaired by Petrus Leroy De Weever (DP), Justice Committee chaired by Patrick Illidge (IND), while the finance committee was to be chaired by Romain La Ville. The finance committee will hold its first meeting with the General Audit Chamber on April 26, 2012 where the General Audit Chamber will conduct an audit of Parliament expenditures.
The source further stated that it is clear that the rift between the UP/DP coalition is widening and that the UP leader is already inquiring if the National Alliance and DP are trying to form a government with the support of the independent members.
SMN News also learnt that the DP and the independent members already began their campaign since they are preparing for early elections.
