Philipsburg:--- Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs confirmed to reporters on Wednesday during the Council of Ministers' press briefing that there is still work to be done at the Marie Genevieve de Weever School. The Minister said that she had expected the construction work to be completed by August 13th when schools re-open for the 2012- 2013 school year but as of now there is still work to be done on the bathrooms. Minister Jacob said that she is currently monitoring the situation and the progress of the construction work to determine whether or not it is safe for students and teachers to return to school by Monday August 13th. "I will be making my rounds this weekend to make sure all is in order and the parents and students will be notified this weekend if that school will be ready for Monday. As it is now premature for me to say whether or not the construction work will be completed by Monday."
The Minister of Education further explained that the top floor of the new wing is complete but she has to ensure that the bottom floor is secure before allowing students and teachers on the premises. Minister Jacobs said that the contractors encountered some delays and that is the main cause of the setbacks.
