USM Submitted Dismissal Request for Seven of its Workers.

Philipsburg:--- The University of St. Martin (USM) has submitted a request to the Department of Labour to terminate at least seven of its workers. President of the Workers Institute for Organized labour (WIFOL) Theophillus Thompson told reporters on Thursday during the union's weekly press briefing that he met with the President of USM to discuss their new programs and the future of the learning institution. Thompson said WIFOL is the representative of the workers at USM but they placed their Collective Labour Agreement negotiations on hold to allow USM to better its administration.
Thompson called on the dismissal committee to work diligently on USM's request. He said since the former president Josianne Fleming left the institution there has been no improvement. He alleged that the current president has no knowledge on education and therefore there is no improvement or progress at the learning institution.
Thompson said USM is trying to terminate local professionals and they have decided to keep foreign workers that require working permits. Thompson said the union will not accept the dismissal of local professionals while foreign workers are kept on the job. USM claims that they are having financial problems and this is the reason why they are seeking to terminate the workers. He said USM does not have proper programs or planning to increase their revenues while there are people on USM's payroll that has huge salaries and benefits.
