Joint Court of Justice Makes Temporary Appointment on Central Bank --- PM.

Philipsburg:--- The Prime Minister of St. Maarten Sarah Wescot Williams announced on Wednesday during the Council of Ministers press briefing that government has received the decision taken by the President of the Joint Court of Justice regarding the appointment of the seventh member of the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten.

Wescot Williams said the former Prosecutor General of the Netherlands Antilles Robert Peters was appointed on a temporary basis. Wescot Williams further explained that the President of the Court of Justice also expressed hope that the two countries would find common ground in finding a permanent member to fill the position.

The Prime Minister said that the government of St. Maarten has looked at the appointment on a broader picture and while she knows the appointed person she hopes that he will demonstrate fair judgment in matters relating to the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten.

Wescot Williams said her government also took note of the measure of the credit restriction taken by the President of the Central Bank Emsley Tromp. She said she also took note of the request submitted to the Chairlady of Parliament by the Members of the Democratic Party faction in Parliament and the independent Member of Parliament Patrick Illidge. The Prime Minister further explained that the Government will be meeting with Tromp during his consultation meetings here and they intend to dialogue with him to find out why there was need to impose such restrictions. The government she said has to look at the matter in a macro-economic prospective as prices have increased over recent months.
In the meantime, the Prime Minister confirmed on Wednesday that the Council of Ministers is leaning towards dollarization for St. Maarten and they intend to take their views to Parliament and to the people of St. Maarten.
