Prison Fight Ended in Stabbing Incident.

Philipsburg:--- A fight of over a canteen debt at the Pointe Blanche Prison on Thursday afternoon has left a prisoner with a minor stab wound confirmed Prison Director Rudsel Ricardo.
SMN News learnt that two prisoners identified as Garvin and Jacobus were involved in a fight over a canteen debt which led to the stabbing. Ricardo said the victim was taken to the doctor where he received treatment for the injury and was taken back to the Pointe Blanche Prison.
An investigation into the late afternoon stabbing at the House of Detention is now underway.
Several legal minds on St. Maarten have said that the overcrowding and inhumane conditions at the prison are the cause of the constant fights at the prison. Just last week a number of inmates damaged the prison cells at the Simpson Bay outpost.
