Government Asks Harbor Supervisory Board to Relinquish Positions --- Internal Audit underway.

romeopantophlet29082012Philipsburg:--- The Minister of Economic Affairs and Tourism who is also over the Harbor Group of Companies Romeo Pantophlet confirmed on Wednesday that he requested that the members of the Supervisory Board of the Harbor Group of Companies make their positions available to the current government (shareholder). The members of the Supervisory Board of the Harbor Group of Companies are Renald Williams, Humphrey Mezas, Joseph Richardson, Kelvin Bloyden, and Miguel Alexander.

Minister Pantophlet said he had a meeting with the board on Monday and the board was requested to step down so that the present government can place some younger people in those positions. Minister Pantophlet said the new administration took office on May 21st and they want the new board to carry out the vision of this government. The Minister said that the supervisory board of the Harbor Group of Companies has until September 3rd to respond to government while the government of St. Maarten is looking into installing the new board by September 15th.

When asked by SMN News if the Ministry or government intends to conduct an audit at the Harbor Group of Companies, the Minister responded with a simple yes, but shortly after said that they are not thinking about that yet. He however stated that an internal audit is underway. The Minister clarified that an external audit is not being discussed at the moment.
