PHILIPSBURG:--- St. Maarten has been selected as the destination to host the 3rd Joint Meeting of the Caribbean HIV/AIDS Regional Training Network (CHART) – Caribbean Cytometry & Analytical Society (CCAS)- Caribbean Med Labs Foundation (CMLF) and the 11th CCAS HIV International Workshop. The Conference/Workshop is scheduled to be held from the 24th - 28th of August 2014 at the Sonesta Maho Resort. The theme of this year's meeting is: Prevention benefits of antiretroviral therapy in Caribbean HIV patients: the central role of patient engagement in the continuum of care. As St. Maarten takes on the role as Host country for 2014, the Public Health Department continues to work diligently to ensure that the conference will be a success.
The four day conference will be filled with informative speeches and presentations of various research findings on the Caribbean region, followed by casual mingling and networking opportunities. Minister Cornelius de Weever urges all organizations and workers in the health care field to take advantage of this great opportunity and register. Usually conferences such as these are held abroad making it difficult for many of our professional to attend. Other persons who may be interested in information about HIV in the Caribbean are also welcome to attend.
The key note speaker for the opening ceremony will be Dr. Joep Lange who is the most eminent and distinguished Dutch HIV researcher and physician. He has been involved in HIV research and treatment since 1983.
