Decision Taken to Increase Pension Age to 62 – PM.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Prime Minister of St. Maarten Sarah Wescot Williams announced on Wednesday during the Council of Ministers' weekly press briefing that the GOA has given government the green light to increase the age of pension from 60 to 62. Wescot Williams said the new pension age is for all workers but she handled mainly the pension age for government workers (civil servants).
Wescot Williams said the increase in the pension age was being discussed since 2012 and it was also discussed in the GOA but sometime during the latter part of April 2014 she got the green light from the GOA. "Since then the Department of Personnel Affairs has been busy working out the procedures on how to execute the new pension age within government services."

The Prime Minister said she is very pleased with the decision because many persons were making queries as to what they needed to do in order for them to work beyond their 60th birthday.
