PHILIPSBURG:--- The Voice of the Youth SXM received a donation of Naf. 90,166 to start with its Program St. Maarten Youth Brigade. This program is one of the three St. Maarten projects which form part of the Dutch Caribbean project "Opportunities for Youngsters". The three-year plan is financed by Foundation Cooperating Foundations for the Dutch Caribbean. The other two projects on St. Maarten have started a few months ago and are managed by the Participant and Kids at Sea Foundation.
The Youth Brigade project aims to give guidance to at-risk youngsters and help them to get back on track through series of outdoor activities and workshops. The activities, e.g. survival camps and community service, focus on physical, mental, cognitive and social educational areas in order build self-confidence and a number of practical skills.
Cooperating Funds is happy to finance this important project and looks forward to the actual start with all its activities after the recruitment drive is finalized. They wish the Voice of the Youth SXM much success with this highly energetic and inspiring program.
