PHILIPSBURG:--- The six political parties that will be contesting the 2014 Parliamentary Elections were given their numbers and colors on Friday by members of the Central Voting Bureau.
The USP headed by Frans Richardson will be the number one (1) on the ballots on August 29th 2014 (Election Day), however the US Party had to settle for the color cyan even though they submitted in thier application to use the color blue. The Social Reform Party (SRP) headed by Jacinto Mock also requested to use the color blue. Since both the USP and the SRP political parties are contesting the elections for the first time, chairman of the Central Voting Bureau Jason Rogers said that based on the law faith would have to decide which party gets the color blue. Therefore members of the Central Voting Bureau placed the names of the two party in a silver can and they pulled one of the names out in order to decide which of the two parties will use blue on their ballots. The SRP got the blue while they got number five (5).
The other parties namely the Democratic Party (DP), National Alliance (NA) and the United Peoples Party (UPP) maintained the colors they requested since they participated in elections before. The DP will remain with the color red, National Alliance white, UPP will use their green and the OSPP will use purple. On the ballots USP will have number one (1), number two (2) goes to the National Alliance, the UP who preferred to use number one had to settle for number three (3), the DP number four (4), the SRP number five (5) and the OSPP has number six (6).
It should be noted that the US Party has all their campaign materials in blue already. Even though they cannot use blue as their official color on the ballot they will not have to change their campaign materials since the color cyan is blue mixed with green which creates a darker color blue than the USP is currently using on their campaign materials.
The A.C. Wathey Legislative Hall was almost filled on Friday afternoon when members of the Central Voting Bureau awarded the colors and numbers that has to be used on their ballots on Election Day.
