Kidz at sea presented with certificates.

PHILIPSBURG:--- On Friday, September 7, 2018, the first 4 participants of Kidz At Sea’s Maritime Maintenance Training Program sponsored by Tourism Cares have presented their certificates of completion and awarded a stipend for their successful efforts.

Tourism Cares approached Kidz At Sea to determine if any assistance could be given to unemployed youth in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Founders Garth Steyn and Lorraine Talmi came up with a condensed maintenance program that would ensure participants could find employment in any of the marine companies to assist with vessel maintenance or to work in the chandleries with a strong understanding of various products and their usage.

So far all participants have been very eager and applying themselves with diligence to the training. At least one participant is now employed by the 12 Metre Challenge and the other 3 have decided to continue their training in the Maritime sector via another program offered.

Kidz at Sea is very thankful to Tourism Cares and their support for our community. Various training and programs by Kidz at Sea are ongoing throughout the Fall and more information will be forthcoming. Kidz at Sea is dedicated to encouraging St. Maarten youth toward careers in the Maritime Sector.
