Port to Sponsor New Year’s Great Bay Fireworks Display. Seeks partners to Celebrate New Year Celebration.

portsxm03062018PHILIPSBURG:---  Port St. Maarten will be sponsoring the 2018-2019 New Year’s Fireworks display in Great Bay. Port Management is seeking partners to help ring in the New Year.
This year’s Fireworks event in Great Bay will be the 13th edition since Port St. Maarten has been supporting the country’s largest fireworks display for public enjoyment and to ring in the New Year.

The display will last 10 minutes. The port was unable to sponsor the fireworks show in 2017 due to the challenges caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Port St. Maarten Management would like to celebrate with the entire community with the end of the year fireworks display. Cruise tourism has seen a remarkable recovery since December 2017 when the first cruise ships returned to the destination.

“Let us celebrate after all the hard work by various stakeholders in the recovery of the destination. There is still a lot to be done throughout the country, but the rebuilding of the country will take time and the same can be said for a full recovery.

“We recognize that the country is still going through hardships, but we should also take a moment to acknowledge a near recovered cruise tourism product and jump start 2019 of 55-years of cruise St. Maarten.

“We are very confident in the future and we would like to give back to the community and the children by restoring some of the things that we are accustomed too.

“A once a year firework display to ring in the New Year is just one of them allowing thousands of residents and visitors to come to Philipsburg and line the roads along the hillsides to watch the fireworks. Lets all celebrate and look forward to the New Year with confidence,” Port St. Maarten Management said on Wednesday.
