PHILIPSBURG:--- The four new high-speed Metal Sharks for the SXM Coast Guard arrived yesterday. With this delivery, the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard (DCCG) completed the 12-boat order announced last year. The 38’ Defiant patrol boats are the result of a multi-year effort by the DCCG to deliver a replacement for the fleet of SuperRibs. The new boats will serve as the DCCG’s main interceptors, patrolling the territorial waters of St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba.
The personnel of the DCCG will start their Metal Sharks training to get acquainted with the boats. After the training, they will officially start operating the patrol boats in the SXM waters. The patrol boats will be operating during all Coast Guard operations.
