werkorganatsiecom17052024PHILIPSBURG:--- Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina, alongside esteemed Ministers of VSA, FIN, TEATT, Minister Plenipotentiary, Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary and Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister recently conducted a courtesy visit to the Tijdelijke Werkorganisatie (TWO) in an effort to strengthen collaboration and foster greater synergy in advancing St. Maarten's development agenda.

During the visit, Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina underscored the importance of closer cohesion and enhanced communication among stakeholders, emphasizing that a unified approach is essential in achieving the broader objectives for St. Maarten. The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to prioritizing the collective interests of the St.Maarten and emphasized the need for alignment towards the bigger picture for the island.

Minister of TEATT stated, "I was pleasantly surprised to learn that we can request additional assistance from the TWO for specific national projects. This discovery has given me hope, as it alleviates the stress of securing funding for several beneficial initiatives for our country."

The Minister of Finance looks forward to the continued professional working relationship with TWO to realize the long-awaited improvements in key government programs, specifically the tax and financial management systems, for the advancement of St. Maarten.

The collaborative engagement between government officials and TWO signifies a significant step towards fostering meaningful partnerships and driving initiatives that will contribute to the socio-economic growth of St. Maarten. By leveraging the expertise and resources of both parties, the aim is to implement effective strategies that address key challenges and capitalize on opportunities for sustainable development.

Thematic sessions have been scheduled with the individual ministers. These in-depth discussions on the various projects will aid in making balanced decisions on the immediate priorities, ensuring tangible change for the people of Sint Maarten.

TWO welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the onboarding process of the new government and took the opportunity to inform the ministers on the content, methods of working and cooperating with implementation of the country package.

Ministry of VROMI announces Temporary Road Closure on Front Street Saturday.

frontstreet17052024PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM):---  The Ministry of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning, and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI), Department of Infrastructure announces that part of Front Street will be closed to motorized traffic on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
A section of Front Street between Praktizijnsteeg – adjacent to the Catholic cemetery – and Kruythoffsteeg will be closed for approximately four hours from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Access to Front Street will be from the other side streets and alleyways.
The Ministry of VROMI apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard: Safe Boating Week.

boating17052024Like many aspects of life, Mother Nature can be unpredictable and unforgiving. Therefore, taking necessary precautions while sailing or engaging in any water-related activity can be crucial during emergencies.
As the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard, it's our duty to remind all boaters, commercial or recreational, of safety regulations during the Safe Boating Week (May 18th to 24th) .
In this regard, here are essential safety guidelines we recommend everyone following:
- Each vessel must have enough life vests for everyone onboard.
- Adhere to the maximum capacity outlined in boat documentation.
- Captains must have a charged cellphone or functional VHF radio and GPS equipment.
- Signaling equipment such as; flares or whistles must be on board.
- A fully equipped and up to date first aid kit must be on board.
- There should always be enough clean water for all passengers on board.
- Wave runner operators must wear life vests and moderate speed in designated areas.
- Captains or vessel agents must report to the Immigration office upon arrival or departure from Sint Maarten.
- Everyone onboard must carry identification, and boat documentation should be up-to-date and accessible.
- Vessels must have operational lights when traveling at night for visibility and safety.
- Public intoxication while sailing or operating a vessel is strictly prohibited.
- In emergencies, contact 913, send a WhatsApp message to +5999 510 0913 or use VHF channel 16.
By following these guidelines, we limit the chances of accidents occurring whenever partaking in water related activities.

Anti-Money Laundering Supervisory Authorities formalize their collaboration.

Willemstad—The Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten (CBCS), Gaming Control Board (GCB), and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in Curaçao continue their commitment to fighting money laundering and the financing of terrorism and proliferation (AML/CFT/CFP). To formalize their collaboration, on May 10, 2024, they entered into a Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU).

The CBCS, GCB, and FIU are the supervisory authorities responsible for ensuring that service providers comply with the stipulations of the National Ordinance Reporting of Unusual Transactions and the National Ordinance Identification of Clients when Rendering Services. Together, they underscore the importance of compliance with relevant international standards established by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Mutual co-operation, consultation, and information-sharing between the Authorities will contribute to the effective carrying out of their supervisory and financial intelligence functions and, in the end, contribute to the integrity of the financial system in Curaçao.
The Authorities have agreed to formalize the existing relationship and base their cooperation in the fields of AML/CFT/CFP supervision and financial intelligence functions on the principles and procedures outlined in the MMoU. The MMoU provides a framework for increased cooperation between the Authorities based on mutual trust and understanding.
