PHILIPSBURG:--- The budget debate that was scheduled for Wednesday September 24th, 2014 to amend the 2014 budget could not take place due to a lack of quorum. Members of Parliament from the United Peoples Party, Member of Parliament Petrus Leroy de Weever and Member of Parliament Patrick Illidge did not show up to the meeting.
While the UPP and DP are in government it is clear that the United Peoples Party will not attend the meetings to amend the budget until they know who will be in government and if things will go their way. Currently, the UPP and Member of Parliament Petrus Leroy de Weever are busy negotiating to form a government with MP elect Cornelius de Weever.
Leader of the Democratic Party Sarah Wescot Williams stated on Wednesday during the Council of Ministers weekly press briefing when she was questioned by SMN News about the current uproar with the formation of government now that MP elect Cornelius de Weever made his position clear to her. Wescot Williams said for her the coalition agreements is still intact. However, she did say that the new developments created some delay and changes with whom they will appoint as Ministers.
