leonamarlin12082014Rumors are unfounded --- Leona Marlin Romeo

PHILIPSBURG:--- SMN News received information from certain members of the United Peoples Party (UPP) who said that they will be getting the support of Member of Parliament (elect) Leona Marlin whom they said promised them that she will declare herself independent after being sworn in as a Member of Parliament and she would then support the UPP/de Weever coalition.
When contacted by SMN News on Thursday MP Leona Marlin (elect) said that she has no intention of leaving the political party she was elected on. "I met with the USp board and they said that they are open for talks with all political parties and tonight I am attending another board meeting to see exactly what came out of those political talks. What I can assure you is that what I said during my first press conference still stands. I told the people that I will remain a member of the USp for this governing period and I will also be on the USp list in 2018. Furthermore, while in Parliament I will represent the people of St. Maarten to the best of my ability I will not be serving those that voted for me alone but instead I will support anything that is good for St. Maarten and its people."
MP Leona Marlin said since the media exposed her several persons have threatened her life. When asked if she has anything such as text, audio, emails or anything to show that her life has been threatened and by whom, MP Leona Marlin said she was threatened verbally. Marlin further stated that she will not be making any more statements to the media for now, she further indicated that she will be attending another board meeting of the USp on Thursday night and from there the president of the party will be the spokesperson for USp.
In the meantime, the leaders of the other political parties namely the Democratic Party, the National Alliance and the USp stated that while the Governor of St. Maarten appointed two informateurs to form a government none of them were approached. Those two informateurs are expected to submit their reports to the Governor on Friday October 3rd, 2014.
