COO working without contract, promised contract till 2017.
PHILIPSBURG:--- The legal rumble and deal making continues at GEBE while the COO Romelio Maduro does not have a contract but signed a check on Tuesday June 2nd for over $60,000.00 for Alfred Harley who got a contract from GEBE which was not approved by the Supervisory board. Based on information SMN News received is that Alfred Harley a former journalist on St. Maarten secured a contract with GEBE through his company “St. Maarten Service Provider” which is in excess of $200.000.00, this contract was signed by the COO Romelio Maduro without the approval of the Supervisory Board, thus the board rejected the contract which they held over Maduro’s head when they decided not to renew his contract which expired on May 31st 2015. While Maduro secured the services of Attorney at Law Peggy Ann Brandon to file an injunction last Friday, leader of the United Peoples Party Theodore Heyliger instructed Prime Minister Marcel Gumbs to reinstate Maduro at his job without a valid contract. SMN News learnt that Heyliger told Prime Minister Gumbs to use the fact that the Supervisory Board did not consult with the shareholder representative (government) before issuing their termination letter to Maduro last Friday.
SMN News learnt that Maduro was promised a contract that will last until 2017 by Prime Minister Gumbs and Heyliger but he does not have the contract in his hands while he is working at GEBE.
A source on the supervisory board told SMN News that on Tuesday the COO Romelio Maduro met with Alfred Harley at a restaurant at Orient Bay and by 4:30 pm Tuesday afternoon Maduro wrote a check to St. Maarten Service Provider to the tune of $68,000.00. The board member said that Harley submitted several invoices to GEBE for his services but none of them were paid, but the UPP leader told Maduro that he is reinstating him back to his position in order for him to “take care of Alfred Harley” since he has employees to pay and that he Maduro has to also work on the MOU that he signed with GB Energy in the Dominican Republic.
The supervisory board member said that the board now wants to know on what legal basis is Maduro working at GEBE since his contract has expired, and under what power he signing off checks? SMN News further learnt that Maduro is not on speaking terms with the supervisory board because he alegedly stated that he is protected by Heyliger and the Prime Minister.
SMN News also learnt hat while the supervisory board are up in arms with government for reversing the decision they took with Romellio Maduro, government on the other hand is busy working on sending home some of the board members, one being the chairman of the board Rene Richardson. It is clear that the current situation at GEBE is a tug of war between the supervisory board, the COO and the shareholder representative.
