TelEm Group staffers grateful for life-saving Cervical and Prostate cancer awareness information

kelahatelem28092015Pond Island:--- TelEm Group personnel capped a month-long campaign of cervical and prostate cancer awareness with a potentially life-saving talk from businessman Michael Ferrier and the KaLaHa Projects founder, Keoman Hamer.
The session took place in the TelEm Group main building Friday with close to 80 persons in attendance. It will be followed up in the coming days with special screening sessions for male and female workers in the company.
The talk was organized by TelEm Group’s Change Champions group in collaboration with the KaLaHa Foundation to bring attention to cervical cancer awareness for women.

“Since we were doing this for women in the company, a decision was taken to also include prostate cancer awareness information for men in the company also,” said Foundation founder Ms. Hamer at the start of Friday’s session.
Ms. Hamer introduced, businessman, Michael Ferrier, as a former prostate cancer sufferer who has been recounting his own experiences to various audiences over the past 10 years since successfully receiving treatment for the disease.
Friday’s session was stimulating and interactive, with much information being provided to the TelEm Group workers.
“If anything comes out of this, it is the importance of getting checked regularly and being aware of the steps you can take towards better health and even extending life,” said both speakers.
Both were presented with a token of appreciation from TelEm Group Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Mr. Bring Mingo, for taking time out to educate company personnel.
“We are all very grateful to Mr. Ferrier for sharing such personal information with us and to Keoma for assisting our team to put together this campaign in an interesting and understandable manner,” said Mr. Mingo.
According to Change Champions spokesperson, Mrs. Shadira Lont, collaboration with the KaHaLa Foundation included the production of a cervical cancer and prostate cancer awareness brochure, a short promotional video which can also be viewed on Youtube, Friday’s talk with staff and the upcoming screening sessions.
“We titled the theme of the campaign “Go Teal” to represent the color of the ribbon everyone wore to bring attention to cervical cancer awareness and we also had large ribbons made out of wood and balloons for outdoor and indoor display in public areas,” said Mrs. Lont, who was also most impressed with the many males members of staff who turned out to attend two separate sessions given by the two speakers.
On behalf of the Change Champions Team, Mrs. Lont has once again thanked the speakers, Ms. Hamer and Mr. Ferrier along with the various volunteers who assisted Friday.
“We want to especially thank all the staff members who participated with real enthusiasm, showing they truly care about their health and the health of their loved ones,” said Mrs. Lont.
