USM donates to Dominica.

usmdominica29092015PHILIPSBURG:--- The University of St. Martin donates to Dominica the day after Dominica was hit by heavy rainfalls due to Tropical Storm Erika, the Board of Directors and Management of the University of St. Martin (USM) addressed a letter to the Prime Minister of Dominica Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit, in an act of spontaneous solidarity. In that letter USM pledged its support to the recovery of Dominica. That very same day students, faculty, and staff began to pool resources to assist with the relief efforts. The President of the Board, Mrs. Valerie Giterson-Pantophlet commented that “Dominica remains holding a special place in hearts and minds of the people of St. Maarten, this is our sister island”. Her words reiterated the spirit of the letter penned by the USM President Dr. Francio Guadeloupe, whereby the promise was also made to accommodate Dominica students handpicked by that government to help rebuild the country.
The funds collected by the USM staff, faculty and students were used to purchase Baby supplies. Other items such as clothing and food supplies were also collected. The products were handover to members of the Dominica Disaster Relief committee, Mr. Clayton Felix and Mr. Romain Laville.
USM would like to thank all those who contributed to this effort by donating supplies or funds.
