MARIGOT:--- The 24 year old mother of the new born baby that was found in a plastic bag on Galleon Beach close to Orient Club on December 26th, 2015 was arrested on Wednesday morning and has been charged with attempted murder of a minor under the age of 15 years. Prosecutor Michaeal Ohayon told SMN News on Monday that he asked the Dutch side Prosecutor’s Office through an international request to locate the suspect whom they managed to identify through a surveillance camera at the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital. Prosecutor Ohayon confirmed that the young woman went to the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital to give birth to her baby but she was sent away by hospital officials who advised her to go to St. Maarten Medical Center since she was born, raised and lived on the Dutch side of the island. The 24 year old woman was identified as S.S, and a Dutch national.
Prosecutor Ohayon said that the woman was summoned to visit the Gendarmerie located at La Savane where she was immediately arrested after she confessed to giving birth to the baby girl who was found in a plastic bag on the beach on December 26th. He said the suspect was sent to Pointe-Ã -Pitre the following day where she appeared before a judge and her pretrial detention was extended.
When asked if the Justice system will go after Louis Constant Fleming Hospital for denying someone medicare, Prosecutor Ohayon said that their job was to investigate a criminal offense and not to intervene in what the officials at Louis Constant Fleming Hospital did when the young woman went there to give birth.
SMN News learnt the woman placed the baby in a plastic bag and tied it prior to leaving her on the beach but crabs managed to tear the bag open and even bit her a few places on the legs but due to the torn plastic bag the child managed to survive since she was able to breathe and not suffocate.
