Marlin wants accreditation for Fire department.

williammarlin13012016PHILIPSBURG-:--- Prime Minister William Marlin during the Council of Ministers Press briefing on Wednesday announced that he is  working with Minister of Education, Culture, Youth & Sports Silveria Jacobs to get accreditation for the Fire department training facility.

The Fire Department is actively looking to further develop the Training System Center on their premises, by developing an official institute. They can administer official exams from the Dutch System. The Fire Department therefore wants to look into becoming a credited institute in order to generate their own income. This income will alleviate current issues due to budget cuts.

Fire Department officials believe that there will be sufficient demand for a local credited institute. Many countries do not have a training center and countries such as Anguilla and Saint Martin (French Side Maritime) are looking for an official institute with a training center that meets the necessary requirements for their trainees. Furthermore, when cruise ships are in port, crew members will be able to complete trainings in 4 hours in order to obtain refresher certification. Prime Minister Marlin is looking into this matter.

He said, “this will create revenue for the department and will serve a great purpose at the same time. No word on how long this will take.
