Congratulations to our young people.

PHILIPSBURG:---- The Board of the OSPP wants to congratulate our young students who travelled abroad to The Hague in the Netherlands to participate in the International Moot Court competition. Imagine out of sixteen countries St. Maarten place third. This is a great achievement and we must commend our young students for pulling this off. It is without a doubt where there is a will, there is always a way. This is a prime example of the good work that many of our young people are doing within our communities by representing us with great honors at that level. And therefore we must not categorize all of our young people in one basket. When good work is done we must congratulate them and let them know how proud we are of them.
This brings us to another event, a political panel discussion that was held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the University of St. Martin from 7.00 pm until 10.30 pm. This event was organized by another group of young people, the JCI LIVE Soualiga. Many members of the Youth Parliament of St. Maarten were present and they together with the rest of the audience posed some valuable questions. The event was very informative and we believe that the OSPP and the other parties were very much engaged. The only regret was that many of the parties that are registered at the Electoral Council to participate in the upcoming election on September 26, 2016 refused to show up. Yet, many of them would still want our young people to believe that they care. But long gone are the days that if you fool me once, shame on me and if you fool me twice shame on you. We have many young people amongst us who are doing positive things within our communities and we must cherish them. We should not only be critical when they are doing negative things, but we should commend them for all the positives also.
The Board of the OSPP wants to encourage these young people and many others to continue striving to make St. Maarten a better place for all of us to live. Sometimes, you feel like you are alone and want to know if you are the only person that cares about this country. That alone in itself should motivate you to want to continue and do more.
