Minister of Education attends Health and Wellness Fair.

healthwellness26012016South Reward:--– Honorable Minister Silveria Jacobs attended the first Health and Wellness Fair hosted by The St. Maarten Vocational Training school under the theme “Preparing Our Bodies and Minds for Our Future”.
The St. Maarten Vocational Training School implemented a Career Guidance program in the academic year of 2014-2015, which is consistently being developed and managed by Career Guidance counselor Ashayna Nisbett. In keeping with this program, the SMVTS deemed it important for students wanting a higher quality of life, achieving a state of wellness must be reached.
Also in attendance of the Health and Wellness fair were, former Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, Rita Bourne-Gumbs. Head of the Division of Public Education, Glenderline Davis-Holiday. Representatives of various organizations including, Turning Point, Posh Productions, The White and Yellow Cross, St. Maarten Medical Center, the Windward Islands Medical Service (WIMS).
Minister Jacobs expressed not only the importance of health and wellness, but the importance of vocational training in our daily lives. Reminding the students that there are not on the bottom, the education and training they receive today. will mold and shape the careers that they will excel in tomorrow.
The Minister also voiced the importance of health and wellness, stating wellness matters. Wellness matters because everything we do and every emotion we feel relates to our well-being. In turn, our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. It’s an ongoing circle. Therefore, it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions.
At the end of the address, students were also encouraged by the Minister to “be the best you, that you can be” not only for personal development, but for the development of Sint Maarten.
