PHILIPSBURG:--- The Journey for Education Foundation is spearheading a grand event in recognition of one of the most beloved teachers on St. Maarten. A reunion of Teacher Carlyle Cadogan and his past students will take place on July 16th 2016 at the Tent at Port De Plaisance. In order to execute this fundraising project, JFE has commissioned a Committee comprising of past students of the beloved teacher Cadogan.
Mr Carlyle Cadogan or Teacher Cadogan as he is affectionately called had been an elementary school teacher for over 40 years. Born on Barbados, he came to St Maarten in 1975 with the intention of teaching for a few years and then returning home. 40 years later, he still resides on St Maarten and has touched the lives of hundreds of students from all walks of life. As an elementary school teacher, Mr. Cadogan’s passion for the vocation is heralded by so many of societies adults who owe most of their discipline to him.
The organizing committee consists of Rolando Tobias, Karen Cadogan, Elroy Hughes, Anastacio Baker, Valerie Brazier Michael Hodge and Gina Illidge; all past students of Teacher Cadogan. Plans are now underway for what is to be a major Summer event on the island. A Facebook page has been created and is serving as a great avenue for past students to comment on their experiences with Teacher Cadogan. “We have many excited past students who are now adults expressing their commitment towards this event” stated Karen Cadogan of the Public Relations Sub-Committee. Karen is the daughter of Teacher Cadogan and says that her father is anticipating a great event. “He has been interested in having a reunion now for several years and we are happy to be finally organizing one” she explained.
Due to the tremendous feedback so far, the committee is planning on having an entire reunion weekend. On Friday, there will be a Karoake meet and greet evening, followed by the grand reunion ceremony on Saturday, culminating with a church service on Sunday morning. The Committee is welcoming past students who would like to work along to contact to join one of the Sub-Committees. There are 5 Sub-Committees namely Public Relations & Graphics, Protocol, Entertainment, Logistics ad Fundraising and each Sub-Committee is chaired by a committee member. Tickets have already been printed and are now available for the reunion ceremony. Tickets are already available at Family Bookstore and members of the Committee. In the coming weeks, more details will be released on the reunion weekend for Teacher Cadogan and his past students.
