Four suspects in Zandhaver case found guilty.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The Court in First Instance in its Wednesday July 6 ruling in the Zandhaver investigation found four male suspects guilty of committing multiple armed robberies on the Dutch as well as the French side of St. Maarten. They were also sentenced for extortion and being accomplice to illegal firearms possession. In addition the Court of First Instance ruled that the four suspects had to pay back illegally obtained profits from the robberies committed. The Prosecutor’s Office had submitted during the criminal proceedings on June 15 an order to recover proceeds of crime for the amount of NAf. 7.500. Orders to recover proceeds of crime fit within the new policy of the Prosecutor’s Office and from now on the Prosecutor’s Office will be submitting more of such claims.
A.A.L. (18) born in Jamaica was sentenced to 48 months in jail of which 6 suspended and a probation period of 3 years. He also has to pay back NAf. 1.961,66 (or spent an additional 29 days in jail) in illegally obtained profits. F.M.R (17) born in the Dominican Republic was sentenced to 24 months of youth detention and has to pay back NAf. 1.603,88 (or spent an additional 26 days in jail). K.J.L. (21) born in Jamaica was sentenced to 36 months in jail and has to payback NAf. 1603,88 (or spent an additional 26 days in jail). M.G. (17) born in Jamaica was sentenced to 24 months of youth detention and he has to pay back NAf. 1603,88 (or spent an additional 26 days in jail). The Prosecutor’s Office had asked for jail sentences of 6 years against A.A.L., 4 years against F.M.R., 5 years for K.J.L. and 4 years against M.G.
