BETTY’S ESTATE:---The International Youth Day (IYD) will be celebrated here at the SoIL cultural venue on Alamanda Drive 1 and LB Scot Road on Friday, August 12, said educator Rhoda Arrindell.
The Source of Inspiration and Learning (SoIL) youth and the cultural facility will host an “open house” from 5 pm until – to celebrate IYD with “games, music, movies, and socializing,” according to the youth organizers.
The SoIL youth membership is also offering food and drinks to raise funds for the venue’s ongoing youth-oriented and cultural activities, said Arrindell.
“We’re inviting the young and young at heart to celebrate with our island’s youth on this UN-designated day. The visiting Colorado College women’s volleyball team will also be our special guest,” said Arrindell, founder of the United Volleyball Club (UVC).
The Colorado College women’s volleyball team travels from the USA to the Caribbean as part of its annual pre-season training program. The team’s visit in St. Martin has been coordinated for the last few years by Arrindell, who is also a leading linguist and author of Language, Culture, and Identity in St. Martin.
The theme of the 2016 IYD is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production.”
