PHILIPSBURG:--- Moments ago some four armed gunmen wearing helmets stormed into Jewelry Avenue Store on the Boardwalk and committed an armed robbery. In the surrounding area, the shattering of the glass cases could be heard from a distance. The culprits it is understood wore helmets as their masks. At least two persons were injured in the head as the armed bandits hit the victims in the head. Ambulance personnel were on the scene treating the injured victims while police are busy combing the area to capture the other two suspects that were also involved in the broad daylight armed robbery.
Interim Police Spokesman Steven Carty confirmed that the armed robbery had just taken place and that police were still busy at the scene. Carty said that based on the preliminary information he received two of the four culprits were caught by police.
Two arrested after daylight jewel store robbery ---- suspects are minors.
On Thursday 10th November 2016 at approximately 12:50 pm the Central Dispatch received numerous calls from the public regarding an armed robbery that was taking place at a jewel store located in Kanaal Steeg, Philipsburg. Patrols from the Multi-Disciplinary Team that were busy with various controls along with the bike patrol and other uniform and non-uniform personnel reacted immediately to the calls. Due to the swift reaction of the patrols, they arrived at the moment the culprits were fleeing the scene on scooters. An intense pursuit followed whereby the culprits ditched their bikes. As a result, a foot pursuit by several of the officers ensued whereby they managed to apprehend two of the suspects. The rest of the area was also in the meantime cordoned off in search of the other two suspects. Members of the Forensic Team and K-9 unit were also called in the assist in the search. A house search was carried out and items of value in connection this armed robbery were retrieved. At the police station, the suspects were heard by the acting prosecutor. Both young men that are presently detained at the police station are minors. The other two suspects managed to elude the search. The police department would like to thank the public who assisted the police in apprehending the culprits. Further investigation is being carried out by the detective department. Information from the general public about the two suspects that are still at large and the armed robbery that occurred on Thursday would be of great assistance to the investigators.
