Free removal of abandoned cars from public roads.

cleanislandlogo16062017PHILIPSBURG:--- The newly launched campaign “ Friendly Island – Clean Island : Our duty of solidarity !” is an initiative of President Daniel Gibbs and his team, in partnership with the Environmental Department of the Collectivité of Saint-Martin, which aims to tow away abandoned cars at no charge, in efforts to enhance the environmental health and beautification of our island.
A free scale removal of all car wreckage is offered to car owners wanting to get rid of obstruction. The eradication of these vehicular shells thereby will permit to take measures against mosquito-borne viruses as we purpose to eliminate breeding sites.
Please note that the Collectivité will usually render free towing services to owners with old cars located in the public domain. Exceptionally, during the cleaning campaign, it will be possible to remove abandoned cars from private domain.
If you wish to dispose of one or several vehicles, contact the Department of Environment and Livelihood at 0590 52 27 30.
The Collectivité of Saint-Martin strongly encourages its population to take an active part in this campaign of a public utility as we work hand in hand, to make our island a healthier, safer and more beautiful place.

Friendly Island – Clean Island : Our Duty of solidarity !

President Daniel Gibbs and his team are fulfilling their election promise to undertake a major cleaning spree of the island on beginning of July. The Collectivité of Saint-Martin invites all the population to share a spirit of solidarity, by putting forth a conscious effort towards environmental wellbeing and respect for the land.

Just at the beginning of the long school holidays and the hurricane season, July 1st & 2nd and July 8th and 9th will be the designated time in which the Sustainable Development unit together with its Vice President, Mr. Steven Patrick, will put in place the major cleaning operation of our Island.

The population at large is invited to join this clean up in private areas while the departments of the Collectivité will carry out daily cleaning routines on public domain. The companies and associations are invited to join the collectivité in this campaign.
To help in this collective effort, garbage bins and containers will be made available to residents of every district in order to dispense of their trash.

So as to respect and sustain sorting habits, it is recommended that upon collection of your rubbish that you do selective sorting and discard at the correct waste bin provided for that purpose.
These efforts are of great significance because they allow the workers at the Ecosite facility in Grandes-Cayes to easily treat the waste and transform it if necessary into a waste recycling solution.

Both Mr. President Daniel Gibbs and his 4th Vice President, Mr. Steven Patrick, are appealing to their fellow citizens to actively take part of this innovative clean-up campaign on July 1st and 2nd for districts number 1, 2 and 3 (from Oyster Pond area to Cripple Gate/Friar’s Bay), and July 8th and 9th, 2017, for the districts number 4, 5 and 6 (from Cripple Gate area to The Low-Lands).

During the two cleaning weekends, it will be possible to ask the civil servants of the collectivité to remove old cars or big items from the private domain. Services will be available during the following week to pick them up.

The Collectivité de St Martin is encouraging you to make use of this framework and of the devises at your disposal in order to banish a maximum of discarded matter during the two weeks mentioned.
We thank you ahead as we respectably work together and strive to keep our environment clean and our livelihood vibrant. Let’s keep Saint-Martin Friendly island – Clean island !
