Candidate #13 on the National Alliance, Jimmy Challenger: “For a second time I am asking the people of St. Maarten to Take the Challenge with me and vote for a candidate that stands behind the need for political stability on St. Maarten. As an elected Member of Parliament of St. Maarten, the two focal points during my tenor will be to support legislation and government initiatives that would allow for Financial Independence and Social Wellbeing for our people.”
When I speak about Financial Independence I am referring to supporting legislation and government initiatives that encourage the expansion and sustainability of existing and new businesses. And as a result, increasing the revenue generation base for the government’s budget – through increased numbers of contributing business entities. Government must recognize that they cannot go at it alone and must work in a more collaborative manner with our entrepreneurs.
To achieve Financial Independence, we must first have political stability. Coalitions have proven to be a recipe for instability. “I envision being a parliamentarian supporting a National Alliance Government with Ten Seats and first full Four Years in Office. A government that would be the engine behind improving investor confidence.
Without Political Stability – Without confidence – business people, local and foreign people alike, will leave our shores and take their money and setup their businesses somewhere else. We cannot afford further loss of investment income, income which can be used to build reserves towards Financial Independence. Through an increased income base, we can invest more in our schools, hospital, roads, and the development of a more robust natural disaster fund. Our tax based income from the private sector must increase – through greater entrepreneurial participation. We must review existing laws and create new legislation that will encourage and support this new idea of true POLITICAL STABILITY for a stronger investor confidence. Having an election every year is counterproductive to achieving any economic stability. Without political stability, we will continue to lose focus on the prize – Income Generation –to enhance our Social Wellbeing”
Without income, we cannot address the ills that are weakening our once strong social fabric on St. Maarten – with reduced income we will continue to be burdened with stress because we cannot take action due to lack of sufficient financial resources. We will continue to have funding challenges for sports facility upkeep in our neighborhoods, challenges with the expansion of our mental health care and other care support services – and we will continue to struggle to financially support our local Red Cross and other NGO’s that have proven once too often the important roles they play during natural disasters. Without sound income management – we cannot have a better Social Wellbeing.
“In the first ever – four years of continued uninterrupted participation in Parliament – Jimmy Challenger – will challenge existing government processes and procedures which may have discouraged the sustainability of businesses and expansion of income generation towards achieving Financial Independence and Social Wellbeing for our people.” – Take The Challenge!
