MARIGOT. The Collectivity of St. Martin has decided to open up three shelters during the passing of hurricane Beryl in the event the island is affected by heavy rain.
Based on the forecasts from Meto France it states that the trajectory estimates of BERYL, category 1 hurricane located 1800km from the Caribbean, indicate a passage between Martinique and Guadeloupe from Sunday evening, but it is still difficult to anticipate its trajectory and development. The weather services France announce a rainy degradation and a strengthening of the winds on the northern half of the West Indies arc, without being able to specify yet the intensity of the phenomenon and the final trajectory.
As a result, the Collectivity of Saint-Martin invites people to be ready and informed. If a rainy phenomenon were to directly affect our islands, the Collectivity will open three cyclone shelters, for the victims living under tent or tarpaulin and allow them to stay dry.
The shelters will be:
- Ecole Clair SAINT-MAXIMIN in Orleans District
- Hervé Williams School in Concordia
- Evelyna HALLEY School at Concordia
The Collectivity of Saint-Martin also informs that the cleaning of the gullies started in Quartiers d'Orléans and will continue on the rest of the territory. In case of heavy rain, the outlets will be open.
In addition, the Collectivity has budgeted 5M € for the roofing of vulnerable people (elderly people and families with small children, disabled people). A precise list of these people has been drawn up by the Solidarity and Families Department of the Collectivité. Procurement for equipment and coverage has been completed and the operation has already begun. Six community investigators monitor field operations to ensure that roofs are covered as quickly as possible.
The Collectivity of Saint-Martin invites the population to keep abreast of the evolution of BERYL and to prepare properly.
