EXCLUSIVE: DP Leader Sarah Wescott Williams considering going Independent.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The leader of the Democratic Party Sarah Wescot Williams who joined with the United Peoples Party to form the United Democrats to contest the snap elections in February 2018 is contemplating going independent since she is not at all happy with the ongoing issues taking place with the government she supports.
It is understood that the leader of the UD Theodore Heyliger is sideling Wescot Williams by holding secretive meetings and not involving her. It is already believed that the majority in Parliament has a spilt since at least four MPs from the UD/SMCP coalition are seen together while those supporting Wescot Williams are in another corner.
Some of the contributing factors are that Wescot Williams fought for the World Bank funds to come to St. Maarten but up to now, the relief aid is not reaching the people and projects are not moving forward. It is also understood that Heyliger is the one doing backdoor negotiations to get financing for PJIAE while giving the Prime Minister instructions.
SMN News also understands that communication from Prime Minister Leona Romeo Marlin is not forthcoming, while the other Ministers are lagging behind and not making progress.
While Wescot Williams is contemplating going Independent it is clear that the National Alliance and the United Peoples Party will not form a coalition with her due to their experience post-Irma. It is left to be seen if Wescot Williams will move forward with her plans or if she will find a way to mend the fractures within the current coalition.
