~ 2019 Draft Budget carried by the coalition.~
PHILIPSBURG:--- The motion presented by MP Egbert Doran got a unanimous endorsement of the Parliament of St. Maarten Tuesday night. The motion Doran tabled has to do with the updating of the control priced goods and the calibration. The Minister of TEATT Stuart Johnson has 90 days to execute the motion.
The motion presented by MP Sarah Wescot Williams to analyze the role of the CFT and their modus operandi.
Several Members of Parliament from the opposition expressed their lack of confidence in the Council of Ministers who will be tasked with executing the motions that are adopted. The motion was adopted unanimously.
The second motion presented by Wescot Williams on the salary cuts for Members of Parliament and the constant interference by the Dutch Government. The motion also seeks to cut all fringe benefits for Members of Parliament and Ministers and to cut government travel by 10% and to also decrease the traveling delegation to two did not get the full support from all Members of Parliament. The opposition namely National Alliance and the USP faction leader voted against the motion along with coalition MP Channel Brownbill and Frans Richardson voted for the motion, thus making 8 MPs supported the motion.
Also carried is the amendment presented by MP Tamara Leonard for a pilot project which will focus on providing meals for at least 50 students attending public schools.
The draft 2019 budget was approved by the UD/ SMCP coalition while members of the NA and USP voted against the budget. The budget was passed by 8 votes and six against.
