PHILIPSBURG — On June 26th, 2019 representative from the department of The Interior and Kingdom Relations, Drs. Loekie Morales visited the director of the House of Detention and Prison Sint Maarten Mr. Alwin Keli to seek meaningful partnership through Sustainable Development goal 17.
In January 2016, Sint Maarten embraced the 17 Global Goals, also named Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG goal number 17 is all about forming Partnerships for development on a national, regional and international level. Furthermore, SDG 17 supports all the other SDGs in such a way, that the Global Goals can be met through partnerships.
Partnerships with the private sector, Academia, NGO’s, civil society, the media, and so one.
Our government acknowledges the importance of engaging entities for the 2030 Agenda within our own society as the primary source for working together for the development of St. Maarten.
During the visit to the House of Detention, a presentation on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (The SDGs) was provided by the representative of the department of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.
The objective of the presentation was to seek the links between the Development Agenda and that of the House of Detention.
Our country is still working hard to recover, after the devastating hurricanes of September 2017.
Like many other entities, the House of Detention also suffered some major damages, but it does not stop Sint Maarten’s commitment to achieving the Global Goals.
