PHILIPSBURG:--- Cecilly Nicholas was awarded with Rotary’s Literacy Award as a young published author on St. Martin. The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset, as a means to promote and encourage Basic Education and Literacy among our youth, awarded 17-year-old Cecilly Nicholas. Nicholas published her first book at the tender age of 7 years old. Her book, titled “The Sunny Day” is centered around her love for the beach as a child. She was also awarded the opportunity to read her book at the second annual Reading Slumber Fun.
“As Youth Service Director, it was a great pleasure to present Ms. Cecilly Nicholas with Rotary’s Youth Literacy Award 2019. We firmly believe that by promoting up and coming young authors, we can help build children’s confidence and point out that writing can be fun and rewarding. Writing is an essential form of communication. Therefore, as a community, as schools, and as parents let us join forces, get involved, and continue on the path of developing, encouraging, and promoting dynamically strong young writers” Youth Service Director Jennifer Rombley said.
Nicholas is an example that the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset would like to highlight throughout the community as a young author and leader. She is currently attending the St. Maarten Academy School and is utilizing her writing skills as a member of the local teen newspaper, Teen Times. The club wishes Nicholas much continued success in her future endeavors and hopes to continue highlight more of our local authors alike.
