PHILIPSBURG: --- A late afternoon shooting took place in Middle Region on Monday afternoon, Initial reports are three persons are involved in the shooting. SMN News learned that at least one person died on the spot, while a second person died at the St. Maarten Medical Center from the gunshot wounds. Two other victims remain at the ST. Maarten Medical Center.
Acting Police Spokesman E. Josepha said that details of the shooting are very sketchy. He dismissed the information that is circulating that states the late afternoon shooting was a drive-by shooting. Josepha said a vehicle drove up to the area and men got out of a vehicle and began shooting which left two dead and two critical.
The police dispatch center received various calls on Monday afternoon, October 28th, 2019, approximately, 04.45 pm, concerning a shooting that was taking place in the Middle Region Road in the vicinity of Samuels Bakery. Several police patrols, the Police Forensic Department, and the Ambulance Department were sent to the location to investigate the situation.
On the scene, the police patrol found unknown male bleeding from gunshot wounds and not showing any signs of life. According to the information gathered, by police, there were two other male victims, with gunshot wounds who were in very critical condition.
The Ambulance personnel treated both victims on the scene, before rushing them to the St. Maarten Medical Center. The detectives later received information that one of the victims who had been transported died of his wounds at the St.Maarten Medical Center.
Shortly after, the police dispatch received another call concerning a fourth victim who appeared with gunshot wounds at the Medical Center, but that his wounds were not life-threatening. The detective department is busy investigation this shooting. The names of the victims involved in this incident could not be verified.
