Healthcare workers participate in “Intervention strategies for destructive and threatening behavior" workshop.

mhf06122019PHILIPSBURG:--- Healthcare employees from the Mental Health Foundation, White and Yellow Cross and Mental Health Caribbean recently participated in a training/ workshop on “Intervention strategies for destructive and threatening behavior." The 4-day training/ workshop were hosted by MHC Forensic case manager Tom Hunting and job coach Eugene Statie.
Disruptive behaviors among healthcare workers can threaten the safety and well-being of both patients and staff. Although disruptive behaviors have long been a concern among healthcare workers, they have often gone unchecked, or even worse, accepted as part of the system. By not addressing these behaviors, organizations silently support and reinforce them.
MHC, MHF, and WYC have taken the initiative by having their healthcare employees charged with understanding and addressing this necessary culture change within healthcare. Organizations benefit from being able to identify the causes and consequences of disruptive behavior for both patients and healthcare workers.
In addition, nurse managers and staff nurses will also be equipped to address disruptive behaviors and take the necessary steps to combat these behaviors self-assuredly.
