PHILIPSBURG:--- In its basic form, a National Development Vision is a vision for development; it outlines the broader developmental goals that the nation envisages for its people, it articulates where St. Maarten sees itself as a country within the next 10 years by effecting change through responsibility and accountability—an opportunity for St. Maarten and its people to determine its outcomes. Therefore, the words “we” and “us” are crucial and included in the NDV. These words indicate a participative approach towards nation-building, as a nation is considered the “som der delen”, the sum of all its parts.
The next step for the draft NDV is validation/acceptance, endorsement, and recognition and agreement including the vetting/appraisal / verifying and checking for accuracy.
Only by the inclusion of the general population and citizens can the NDV be a worthwhile document and a basis for the people’s vision of what St Maarten can and should become.
As such, everyone is strongly urged/requested to go to the link and fill in the online survey/ questionnaire, which will take about 5 minutes to complete.
The questionnaire will be accessible until August 31st, 2020. The draft National Development Vision can be found on the website of government as well as via the Facebook page of the department of The Interior and Kingdom Relations.
