Netherlands Catching up with the Rest of the World regarding Technology in the Court Room --- New Media Rules Apply in March 2013.

Netherlands/St. Maarten:--- The President of the Courts of the Netherlands recently approved new court room rules for reporters/journalists and videographers which will go into effect in March 2013. According to a monthly magazine issued to prosecutors within the Kingdom and countries within the Kingdom, journalists will be allowed to tape record, videotape, and take photographs of court room proceedings as of March 2013. The rules were made broader for media workers in order for them to bring forward a more accurate and complete picture of court room proceedings. Journalists and videographers who wish to tape court room proceedings have to notify the court in advance in order for the presiding judges to make the necessary arrangements for the taping and recording. Some special arrangements were made for criminal proceedings especially where it relates to the personal aspect of suspects. Suspects in each case can choose whether or not they agree to be taped during their trial. The magazine states that the judge, lawyers, and prosecutors can be taped during court room proceedings.
