Marigot:--- Joycelin Carty, a native St. Martiner and mother of 21 year old Joseph Lewest, who was stabbed to death last Wednesday night criticized a newspaper article which stated that her son was a gang member. Carty said that the article even stated that she was in Guadeloupe at the time her son was stabbed to death. The bereaved mother said she was at her home on Cheveries French Cul de Sac when her son was stabbed to death by 24 year old Donald Durogene also of Cheveries. Ms. Carty told SMN News Sunday night that the night her son was stabbed she went to the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital to see her son's condition and the doctors at the hospital refused to let her see her son even though they knew he was already dead when he reached the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital. The grieving mother further explained that she learned of her son's death the following morning from his grandmother who resides in Guadeloupe and she heard the news on TV and radio that her grandson had succumbed to his injuries.
Joceyline Carty said when she got the call she rushed to the hospital and the doctors told her they did their best to save her son and they also told her that they could not let her know that her son had died because too many of his friends and relatives were outside of the hospital Wednesday night and they were trying to avoid a commotion.
Joceyline Carty said that the young man who stabbed her son to death lives in her neighborhood and her son knew the young man who has been breaking into homes in the neighborhood. Carty said the night her son got killed he was celebrating his birthday and he saw "Donald" and confronted him because "Donald" broke into her neighbor's house and her son told him that since he broke into that person house he will soon break into her house. She said because of the remarks her son made to "Donald" an argument started which ended up in a fight. Ms. Carty said a second person tried to part the fight and he too was stabbed. She said when Joseph was stabbed he tried to rush home but he fell on the way and that is where the ambulance and other first aid assistants met him and tried to save his life. As for the killer Carty said he jumped into the ambulance and it was inside the ambulance he was arrested. Donald Durogene was evacuated to Guadeloupe on Saturday the bereaved mother said.
