PRIDE Foundation Conducts Cleanup at Emilio Wilson Park.

pridefoundationemiliowilsonparkcleanup23122012As a year end event, the Sint Maarten PRIDE Foundation conducted a cleanup of the Emilio Wilson Historical and Cultural Park. The cleanup was an effort by the PRIDE Foundation youth who are the representatives of the foundation in their respective schools.
Trash found in the park consisted of left over plastic cups and bottles left behind by those visiting the park as well as plastic waste washed down in the gutter originating from the St. Peters and Reward areas.
PRIDE Foundation would like to remind all visitors to the park to bag their trash and dispose of it responsibly, at the entrance gate of the park there are large trash containers for this purpose.
The Emilio Wilson Park is the only open access park of its kind on the island, enjoyed by many for relaxation, sports, and gatherings, it's cleanliness should be respected by all.
As we approach the Christmas and New Years holidays, we would like to encourage everyone to keep it clean and safe. Our beaches, especially the Mullet Bay beach, Belair beach and Great Bay beach are popular locations for beach parties, we ask everyone to bag their trash, find a trash bin and dispose of responsibly. If none are in your immediate surroundings, carry the trash with you. Beach party organizers should have trash bins placed in and around the party location as a first priority and are ultimately responsible for any litter left behind by their party guests. PRIDE Foundation also asks beach party organizers to respect others where it concerns loud music, sound pollution is a serious concern by many residents who do not wish to be disturbed by loud music disrupting their own quality family time.
The foundation wishes everyone, and especially our dedicated volunteers a Happy, Green, and Clean New Year in 2013. May we all strive to protect our island as a gem in the Caribbean by keeping it litter free in its natural island beauty.
